Britain announced in the recent Queens Speech plans for new motor insurance laws designed to encourage investment in driverless cars. The Market for autonomous driving is worth £900b worldwide according to the government but will need to overcome legal obstacles including the determining of who would be responsible for an accident.

Lewis Baker of Cheap Fleet commented “It’s clear the market is going to shift in the future and this affects anyone with a Fleet of vehicles & anyone in the industry of insuring those vehicles. We work hard to make sure we offer the most competitive rates from our panel and will continue to do that in the future no matter what changes take place.

A spokesman for the DoT said the laws would extend the current existing compulsory insurance regime. They would have to insure that owners of driverless cars would be insured if any accidents took place. Driverless vehicles are currently being tested in four parts of the country with the first expected to take to the road later this year.
